BECOME A VOLUNTEER
Why become a volunteer? In the 1920’s veterans were returning home after their service to the country and community volunteers quickly realized that the Department of Veterans Affairs needed support in handling disability claims filed by veterans. Non-profit organizations such as the Disabled American Veterans and the American Veterans surfaced to assist veterans in their claims for disability compensation. Now the Equal Employment Anti-Discrimination Foundation has surfaced in order to support all Americans to file claims to seek redress for employment discrimination. The same reasons a need is recognized to help veterans file disability compensation claims EEAD also recognizes the need to help all Americans file appropriate claims with the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Veterans are entitled to file claims of discrimination with the Department of Labor under the Veteran’s Employment Opportunity Act and all citizens who believe they have been discriminated against because of their disability, national origin, gender, religion, race/color, age, pregnancy, equal compensation, genetic information etc… are entitled to file a claim with the EEOC. There are many experienced civic advocates who understand how State and Federal enforcement agencies work, but they have no voice. Employment discrimination is downright out of control. In fact, the problem has become so calloused, employers are failing to hire applicants because of sexual orientations, having poor financial credit, recovering substance abusers (alcohol or drugs), welfare recipients, economically disadvantaged youth and adults who lack work history, and others. A U.S. Department of Labor initiative report revealed that more than 600,000 inmates are released from prisons or jails annually and 67% of them will return to crime and incarceration. The study showed that a failure to become employed after release is a major factor contributing to the high rate of recidivism. The USDOL bond program proves that 99% of ex-offenders job placements are successful. In other words, many companies in the United States have 100% bond insurance coverage for “at-risk” applicants but fail to hire them. “At risk” factors include having poor financial credit, recovering substance abusers (alcohol or drugs), welfare recipients, economically disadvantaged youth and adults who lack work history, and others, not just ex-offenders. This chaos will never end until Americans have made known a united front. The only guard on the scene is our courts. That is not enough. They are nearly speechless when you consider how overwhelmed they are. Become a National Service Officer and volunteer today at EEAD and have your voice heard!.
